Another last minute change while working on a Muzik Update post. I was originally going to group these ladies with some other male artists for a New Muzik post. But as I sat here and watched the music videos for these talented ladies listed below, I determined that they deserved their own post. They are doing it on their own and not playing around, and I love to see it!
BlackPink’s Lisa’s Solo Debut!
I started listening to BlackPink when I first started listening to K-Pop, and I thought that they were great. But, as they continued to become popular and their fans moved to the forefront, I kind of backed up a bit, and watched from a distance. It’s been hard to avoid them, though, because these young ladies are everywhere, not just in music.
In this case, though, Lisa has made her anticipated solo debut with the single “LALISA”, as well as the track “Money”. “LALISA” has been stuck in my head since I first heard it, but it really is a fun song with a lot of attitude, that I can definitely appreciate. It’s a Pop/ Dance track with a small Hip Hop element, mainly from Lisa’s “rap” verse in English. And that dance breakdown towards the end of the video is my favorite moment.

Chloe Bailey’s Solo Debut!
After seeing this beautiful, talented young woman be attacked on social media for coming into her own, exploring her sexuality, I am proud of how she is coming out as a solo artist. This new song “Have Mercy” and the music video, brings ALL the sexy, unapologetically, and I love it! Chloe’s voice is strong, powerful, and confident.
The song is a perfect mix of Hip Hop, and that R&B/ Soul we’re used to getting from Chloe. When it comes to the overall music video theme, I really love the play on Medusa. The choreography, wardrobe, dancers, and guest cameo by Ms. Tina Lawson (Beyonce’s mom) was beautifully done. I look forward to seeing so much more from Chloe, and her sister Halle as well.

Ari Lennox Drops New Single!
Now, Ari has been a favorite of mine since she first came out, and I was lucky enough to experience her live (before COVID). This new single “Pressure” is that classic, sexy R&B/ Soul music. She has a way of being open, honest about intimate, sex-related topics, without it coming across as “vulgar”, if you will. Her music is still relatable and easy to vibe to. Dreamville’s first lady is killing per usual, and I couldn’t be happier.
The music video is an ode to the style and aesthetic of older generations, as well as the current/ future. I love seeing her doing a little choreography as well. She has always been a mix of old and new R&B/ Soul, and her personality is so laid back and classy. I can’t wait to see more from her.

CL is Back with New Single Ahead of New Album!
I have probably been listening to CL for about a year or so, still getting into her older music. She is an OG/ Icon in the K-Pop/ Hip Hop world, both there and here in the states, apparently. So far, based on what I have heard by CL, I am beyond amazed and impressed with everything about her. I love her attitude, style, stage presence, all of it!
Watching the video, I wasn’t expecting her to go THAT hard when it came to the dancing and overall attitude while rapping. Everything really impressed me about her, and I’m excited to learn more about her. Also, I am ready for this new album ALPHA, since it’s been a while since she dropped some new music. And this is a full track list so we’ll get to hear what’s she’s probably been working on for her fans.

AOMG’s Lee Hi Releases New Album 4 Only!
More talent out of Jay Park’s record label AOMG. I’ve heard a lot about Lee Hi but this is my first time really listening to her music. I first heard her recent single “Red Lipstick” by watching the music video for it, which of course featured Jay Park, and other AOMG artists. The video is so cute and I’m loving the 90’s vibe.
“Waterride” isn’t a top pick for me, but it has a cute, unique sound to it. And “Bye” is similar to the lead single, and even reminds me of a EXO-SC (Sehun and Chanyeol of EXO) song that I really love. Her slower tempo tracks like “Savior” featuring B.I., “Intentions”, and “H.S.K.T.” featuring Wonstein, are some of my favorites. They all have a sexy, sultry, R&B/ Jazz sound to them. But things slow down even more on the last 4 songs on this album, but her voice fits the sounds so well.
