When it comes to T-Pain, I am still tripping over the fact that he was on that Masked Singer show, won the whole thing, and hosted the I Heart Radio Awards. That was really just the coolest thing to me! What’s even cooler than that, though, is that he has a new album out, called 1UP. The album artwork got me right away, it’s an evil video game version of Black Panther.
He was singing one of my favorite songs by Gavin Degraw 🙂
1UP… My Review
Right away, my favorite song was “RIP to the Parking Lot” featuring Boosie Badazz. It just reminded me of the old T-Pain songs that I know and love. I still like his newer stuff but it’s always cool to get those old vibes from artists that we’ve been listening to for years, you know? And of course, I really like his slower tempo tracks, like “U Up”, “Be Your X”, and “Keep This From Me”.
My favorite slower tempo song, though, has to be “Here it Comes” featuring Russ, who is one of my favorites when it comes to tracks like this. Going back to faster tempo/ club-type songs, “It’s My Dog Birthday” is very catchy and sounds like the “old” T-Pain. And as much as I go back and forth about how I feel when it comes to Tory Lanez, I do appreciate his feature on “Getcha Roll On”. If you follow Tory on Twitter then you may know what I mean when I say I don’t know how I feel about him.
Final Thoughts!
Some articles I’ve read and videos I’ve seen with T-Pain has made it seem like he feels that a lot of people are copying his style, or not giving him his props for the whole auto-tune thing. I feel like he did make it popular but I still believe that it only works if you can actually sing without it. T-Pain can really sing so his auto-tuned voice sounds dope, in my opinion. He does deserve his props for his music and talent, but getting back to this album, I really, really like it.
