Music Review! ASAP Ferg Gets Creative with New Album Always Strive and Prosper

I’m a little late with this post but here it is 🙂

A$AP Ferg’s new album Always Strive and Prosper came out on Friday 4/22. To be honest, I have just been listening to a few songs of his off and on but always liked what I heard. And I’m a fan of the whole A$AP crew so of course I was curious when this album came out.

I’m digging “Hungry Ham” that features Skrillex (Electronic artist) and Crystal Caines. His flow is ridiculous on this track. It’s a hard hitting hip hop track over electronic beats. Think A$AP mixed with Kendrick Lamar verses. I use that comparison because of the melodic rhyming over the beats.

Then there’s his song with Missy Elliott called “Strive”… Is there really anything else to say? But this track is like a techno/ rave/ club banger. My favorite part is Ferg’s chorus though… It goes “… You can be you today…You can be you tonight…Know you’re feeling really great…It’s gone be alright…I can see it in your face…And I know you wanna fly…So get off your ass and create your life…” (Dope right?)

Another favorite of mine off of this album is “I Love You” featuring Chris Brown and Ty Dolla Sign. It shows a “softer” side of Ferg and the album. Chris even has a verse on here but it’s nice and it doesn’t sound forced being that at the end of the day, we all just see him as a vocalist. Then you get your typical amazingly sung chorus by Chris. But after his chorus, you hear Ty’s powerful, soulful voice come in, taking it to a deeper level (I love his voice so much on this song!). This track actually features Chris and Ty’s singing more than Ferg’s verses which was a little surprising to me but I am still really feeling the song.

Overall, I love this record. I will be having it on repeat for a while. I am always looking for albums that are different and really reflect the artist and their creativity. Ferg attended art school, had a small fashion line, and has an extensive knowledge on Art and other things creative, which is reflected in his music. He is definitely my favorite kind of person.

I respect how this isn’t your “typical rap/ hip hop album” (whatever that really is anymore). There are so many different musical elements to it. If you haven’t read my earlier posts, I am a fan of artists who tell stories and don’t focus on how to rhyme things with drugs, guns, and sex. You feel me?

This quote from Ferg’s GQ interview is the perfect example of that:

“I don’t want to approach my craft with just crazy flows or how I could kill beats and this and that,” he says. “What my focus is now is what’s coming out of my mouth and how is this going to affect people and what impact is this going to have on the world when they listen to these words.” ( http://www.gq.com/story/asap-ferg-always-strive-and-prosper )

So, with all of that being said, go check out Always Strive and Prosper. It’s definitely worth checking out.

Nice blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog stand out. Please let me know where you got your design. Bless you dafafacfbgfd
