Music Crush Monday! Hoodie Allen… Why You Should Believe ‘The Hype’!

I know that I haven’t been doing my Music Crush Monday posts lately but I have good reason for that. I do like a lot of new artists but I always go back to some of my older music crushes and I don’t want to keep writing about those same artists. I just wanted to switch things up for a while. And I will continue to do so but, today, I have an awesome new-ish Music Crush to talk to you guys about!

First, A Little Background on Hoodie…

Steven Adam Markowitz aka Hoodie Allen is a 29 year old (Yay! LOL) rapper/ singer/ songwriter from Long Island, NY. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, he got a full-time job working for Google (Yes, Google… Cool, right?). He would work a full day there, at Google, then go home and work on his music which became a bit hectic for him. His dream and passion was music, so when he started to really get opportunities to do live shows, he decided to leave Google.

Check out some of Hoodie’s many releases below. They’re all actually really good, keeping that same feel-good vibe that is Hoodie Allen. Notice, though, there’s a 1 year gap between his last album and this recent one. I’ve read a couple of things that Hoodie posted about that, and it’s like he had a lot of anxiety about it because he was hoping his fans would understand that he needed that break (of course his die-hards understood). But that break he took to work on a project he’s super proud of, is probably what he needed.

Discography:

All American (2012)

Americoustic (2013)

All About It EP (2014)

People Keep Talking (2014)

Happy Camper (2016)

The Hype (2017)

The New EP, The Hype… What Do I Think?

Hoodie’s latest album called The Hype was released this past Friday (September 29th). I have Apple Music, I was listening to it around 10:30/11pm 🙂 But, I listened to this new album before refreshing my memory of some of his older music. He hasn’t changed THAT much as far as his overall vibe is concerned, and that’s not a bad thing.

It’s 12 tracks of “versatile” Hip Hop/Rap tracks and I love it! Some of my favorite tracks are “Believe”, “Know it All”, “Ain’t Ready”, and definitely “Something Dangerous”. And I really love a couple of his features; “All for Me” with Scott Hoying (Pentatonix and Super Fruit) and “Fakin” with Wale. They are two completely different features for two completely different songs, showing the different sides & styles that Hoodie possesses. But with that said, I can still listen to this album top to bottom without feeling the need to skip.

One thing that I definitely noticed about Hoodie along with the fact that he recruited Luke Christopher and Myles Parrish for his Hype Tour this fall. All of them have one very important thing in common, most of their music is uplifting and positive. They are also very genuine and creative-minded people/ artists, something very rare these days so it’s definitely appreciated. I am looking forward to their Houston show so much and hope that I get a chance to meet them and express my appreciation for them.

Final Thoughts!

Hoodie has definitely been someone that I’ve listened to off and on for the last few years or so. I’ve always known who he was but never looked into him like that. So, of course before deciding to write about him, I did a lot of research and made sure to follow him on EVERYTHING. The more I learn about him, the more I love and adore him, as more than just a musician, as a person.

Of course I’m excited that he’s bringing Luke Christopher and Myles Parrish along for his Hype Tour. But something he posted on Twitter before the album dropped really got me. Other than the sweet letter he wrote to his fans, he posted an article that he wrote talking about his anxiety. A lot of my favorite musicians have some type of anxiety but I love when they show us a more vulnerable side since we usually see all of the money, fans, and flashing lights.

  1. Great blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers? I’m
hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little
lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with
a free platform like WordPress or go for
a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed ..
    Any suggestions? Appreciate it!

  2. Hey there! I just would like to offer you a big thumbs up for the great information you
have got right here on this post. I’ll be coming back to
your web site for more soon.
