Music Review: Too High to Riot

It’s Tuesday and time for another Music Review! And I am going to be reviewing the new album Too High to Riot by Bas. Bas is a rapper out of Queens, NY and is currently signed to J.Cole’s label Dreamville Records and Interscope Records.

Apple Music describes this album perfectly, saying “The New York rapper speaks truth from a high state of consciousness”… And that’s exactly what this album is. His lyrical content is open and honest, rapped over laid back beats. It isn’t violent and aggressive like a lot of other music that’s been out.

This album features 2 of Bas’ fellow Dreamville All-Stars Cozz on the track “Dopamine” and of course J.Cole on “Night Job”.

I love this record, though, because he reminds me of some of my favorite rappers (i.e. J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar of course). But his content has real substance and isn’t just trying to be something else or looking to get mainstream approval. They talk about what they want, the things that shape them, and the issues that mean something. That kind of music connects with people and fans.

I can definitely say that I am a Bas fan (and a Dreamville fan in general) and look forward to where his career goes from here.
