Happy Tuesday! Let me start by saying that I am still jamming ELHAE’s last EP Aura II. But I wasn’t sure what to expect from this album since it’s been a while. From the title Trouble in Paradise, though, I figured it would be one of those rollercoaster relationship focus type records. This gets me back to my R&B albums reviews, though, so I am not mad at that at all.
Trouble in Paradise… My Review
It took me a little longer than I thought to have a solid opinion about this album. ELHAE is R&B/ Soul but has always had a “different” sound to me. One of my favorite tracks, and probably my favorite feature, has to be “Sanctuary” featuring Big Krit. It’s just something about the melody that really grabbed my attention.
I’m not a huge fan of the female voicemail sections throughout the album, though. I mean, I understand why it’s a part of this record, but I just don’t like it. But back to the songs… I do like “Over Again” because of ELHAE’s vocals against this beat. And his voice on the “Help Me Believe” Interlude that goes into “I.D.B.I.L” is heavenly, on both tracks. Those definitely remind me of Aura II.
Final Thoughts!
I am always so appreciative of a good R&B album, whether I love every song or not. It just seems like there are so many more Rap albums out and pushed more than real R&B records. I know there isn’t a lack of good R&B/ Soul artists, they just aren’t pushed as hard as these younger rap/ hip-hop artists. Don’t get me wrong, I love rap & hip hop, but sometimes I’m just not in the mood for it.
