Music Review! The Zone

Happy Good Friday! I figured that today I would introduce you guys to an Indie artist named Star Child who I met through Twitter. This is one of my favorite things about being a blogger. It gives me a chance to meet and interact with people in music.

I am mainly going to be reviewing his most recent music project called The Zone. He dropped it on Valentine’s Day earlier this year. I truly appreciate him because he actually explained what the album/ songs are about. Not many people do that so I respect that a lot . In his words: “The Zone was a short story about a young man infatuated with a woman who no matter how real and genuine he comes off, the woman still shows him no attention, with let me know he is basically giving the ultimatum of either being told where the relationship lies and what it could be or being told that there is no chance for love at all.”

My Review

This is definitely an R&B/ Neo-soul type of record. I can’t give you guys any comparisons because I honestly cannot think of any. Though his style is obviously R&B, his sound is still very unique. Also, the fact that all of the songs tell a story, gives it a different vibe all together.

I have a few favorites that stuck with me. The first one is “Let Me Know” which was the lead single from this album. It has a Justin Bieber sample from “All That Matters to Me” and you guys know that I love me some Biebs LOL. But I honestly do love how the sample was used for this song. It’s up-tempo with a very chill vibe (which he was going for) and I’m feeling it a lot.

Another favorite is “Black Dress” which uses a sample from one of my favorite Fantasia songs “Truth Is”. But I love it for this song. It’s definitely a sexy song while he talks dreamily about a female. I like songs like this especially when it’s nothing too vulgar (at least not for me LOL) but still plays on people’s fantasies about the opposite sex.

Lastly, I’m feeling the song “Just the Way It Goes”. This is actually the song and video that got me interested in him as a musician. It’s just the real, laid back vibe that I got from it. It almost gave me that spoken word feel. But it’s definitely one of my favorites.

Final Thoughts

Overall, it’s a pretty cool project. More than anything, I love that it has a purpose and tells a story. If it didn’t have an original storyline then I don’t feel like it would make much sense and would come across like other R&B records. But because of the story that he is telling, it sets him apart a bit.

I wish you the best of luck with your music and I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

  1. This design is wicked! You definitely know how to keep a reader amused.

Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Excellent job.
I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you
    presented it. Too cool!
