Throwback Thursday! Re-Visiting Frank Ocean’s Classic Album Channel Orange

It’s Throwback Thursday! So many things are happening in the music world right now that made me think of this record for today. This album really isn’t THAT old but it is definitely a classic… Channel Orange by Frank Ocean released in 2012. He hit the Hip Hop World hard with this one.

Now, honestly, I did not jump on the bandwagon when everyone else was obsessing over this record. I did love “Thinkin Bout You” but wasn’t freaking out over the album. I couldn’t even tell you who I was really into at the time.

When it comes to music and things that I love, if too many people are on it, it turns me off and I don’t bother with it for a while. Or, in some cases, I end up finding something before others do. I guess it all depends on my timing. Sometimes I’m late finding out about new things or sometimes I’m just a bit too early. But at the end of the day, when I find something that excites me, I’m good.

But after all of the noise finally calmed down, I decided to just sit and listen like I do with everything else. Of course I ended up loving it. I can’t compare Frank or his voice to anyone else. He is coming from a different and much deeper place and you can hear that in all of his songs. It’s one of those albums where you can just close your eyes and vibe out to it.

Channel Orange brought Frank Ocean tons of exposure and notoriety. There is an amazing article from GQ where he talks about what that year was like for him.

There has been rumors about Frank working on some new music and releasing a new album soon. Everyone, including me, is so anxious for him to drop something. I’m pretty sure he knows exactly what he’s doing, building up anticipation then dropping the album out of nowhere, blowing people’s minds more than before. Right?…

But until then… Channel Orange will be on the playlist for a while 🙂
