Happy Thursday! I normally don’t do too many Rap/ Hip Hop album reviews, especially for popular and heavily talked about artists. But, in this particular instance, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to share my thoughts. Also, when it comes to 2 Chainz, who I have been a fan of since he was with Ludacris and went by Tity Boi, I can appreciate when the “aggressive, trap” vibes are toned down a bit to focus on a bigger message. He definitely changed it up for this new project Rap or Go to the League.
So Many Features…
On top of the fact that I just really enjoy this album, I couldn’t help but notice all of the features he has. My favorite right off the bat is the very first track “Forgiven” with Marsha Ambrosius, an R&B/ Neo-soul powerhouse, in my opinion. I also love the Kendrick Lamar feature on “Momma I Hit A Lick”. That song is definitely one that will get stuck in your head; I was definitely just walking around like “Momma, I hit a lick” LOL.
Also, I can appreciate the Lil Wayne and E-40 feature on “2 Dollar Bill”, bringing that good old 2 Chainz Trap vibe back, which is cool. And, even though I don’t know how to feel about Ariana Grande right now, I do really like her feature on “Rule the World”. And Travis Scott’s sound fits perfectly on “Whip”. This album also features Young Thug, Ty Dolla Sign, Chance the Rapper, and Kodak Black.
It’s gotten pretty rare for me to want to jam a real Rap album a lot, but this one has changed that for me. But its 2 Chainz so I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised LOL. I mean, sometimes you just need that hard-hitting, aggressive rap in your life *shrugs*. But the theme for this album has an amazing message, especially when it comes to our youth. There is just so much more out there for them than being in the streets or being a rapper or NBA player.
