What’s up you guys?! I am back with another music review (please tell me if you guys are tired of these and/ or want something different) for Amine’s second album ONEPOINTFIVE, and this is one of those posts that I am always happy to do. The reason I’m happy about it is because I did a review for his debut album last year. I looked at it and can see that I have definitely come a long way, with this blog, and my writing. For the first post, check it out here .
Getting to Know Amine (Again)…
Around the beginning of 2014 Amine dropped his first mixtape called Odyssey to Me. Later that year he would release an EP called En Vogue. The next year he came out with his second mixtape Calling Brio. (I still need to check those out). Then in the Spring of 2016, he released his debut single “Caroline”. “Caroline” would peak at number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
He partnered with Republic Records the summer after that release. After joining Republic, his second single “Baba” was premiered. As of June 2017, “Caroline” had been certified triple platinum.One important thing to note about Amine is that he was named as one of the ten members of XXL’s “2017 Freshman Class”. Also, I did a write up about his debut album Good for You last summer, that included a bio, but to get you guys re-familiar with Amine, I decided to share that again.
The Review… ONEPOINTFIVE
Let me just say how much I love the fact that Amine got Rickey Thompson for the skits/ interludes on this album! Rickey is a Youtube/ Social Media “influencer” but he’s really funny and I love his videos so I can appreciate this collaboration with Amine. I will put his social media info below so you can check him out for yourself. You have to love an album with fun skits/ interludes 🙂
It’s hard to really describe Amine and his overall style. His music is Hop Hop, no doubt. But his style of rapping is super laid back at times, sometimes sounding like some of these younger rappers that are out now, only his lyrical content is a lot better. The vibe has changed a bit from the first album, it’s not as bright or playful; still good songs, though.
Some of my favorite songs are “Dr. Whoever”, “Chingy”, “Cantu”, “Ratchet Saturn Girl”, and “Together”. I may add to that list the more that I listen to this album, as usual, but those are the ones that stuck out to me the most. I think I really like “CANTU” and “Ratchet Saturn Girl” because they kind of remind me of songs from the first album. And “Together” is looking like my favorite because it’s slower tempo and about being into a girl; I’m a sucker for songs like that (LOL).
