Music Review! Marc E. Bassy Gives Us Something to Talk About with New Album Gossip Columns!

Happy Saturday! I am hoping to get a lot of posts out to you guys between this month and next month. Awesome for me, so many amazing albums have been released this month and November looks just as promising. Some of the artists I will be talking about are favorites while the others are new to me, but exciting all the same. The newer artists excite me more because I get to learn about someone new and check out a different sound (in most cases).

Today, I will be talking about Marc E. Bassy and his new album Gossip Columns that he released yesterday (10/20/17). He is someone that I have not really mentioned before. I have listened to him prior to this post and recent album of his, but this is the first time I’m really able to write about him. He is another singer/ songwriter (my favorite) and from a place I have come to love (music-wise), California. The personalities, style, attitude, and overall vibe of the artists from there always grab my attention. I love artists all over the world so I never look into where they’re from until after I listen to them 🙂

Let’s Get to Know Marc E. Bassy…

Marc E. Bassy is a 30 year old R&B singer and songwriter out of San Franciso, CA aka the Bay Area. Add him to the many talented individuals that have come from this area. He currently lives in Los Angeles for his career but he still reps that Bay, and it’s obvious in his music. Like many others, he was a songwriter fir, working with a lot of popular artists, meeting many others along the way. He started sending his music to these other artists until, I guess, the realization hit, that he might as well try getting on the other side of the mic and see what happens.

He grew up in a family of music lovers who had a genuine love of music. His parents raised him on classic soul music, like Sam Cooke and Donny Hathaway. Even though he always had a love of music, he didn’t really get into it or pursue it until he was around 17. That’s kind of crazy because he was signed at 20.

I want to leave this bio pretty simple and focus on the music more; especially since there are a lot of other articles that show that side of him so much better. Check out one of his first interviews as a solo artist, when he was still independent…

When the Bay Area Shows Love to It’s Own… Dope Collabs on Gossip Columns

Marc has about 7 tracks (out of 16) with features. All of the features are artists based out of California, preferably the Bay Area. My favorite collaboration is on the song “Plot Twist” with Kyle because the two of them sound so awesome together. It’s a fun song with something you would expect with Kyle. There are some Pop and Dance elements mixed with the edgy R&B vocals from Marc.

His collaboration with Kehlani is great as well. “Made Love First” with Kehlani is of course a slower tempo track with some “set the mood” R&B melodies and background music. Then Kehlani adds her sultry vocals for the female side of things, which pairs perfectly with Marc’s vocals. Yes I have become a fan and love Kelani now, kind of hard not to.

G-Eazy is featured on 2 tracks on this record, “So Simple” and “You & Me”. I love them both and they are actually pretty different. I think I like “You & Me” more because it’s more up-tempo and the Caribbean rhythms in the background mixes things up a bit. But I like G-Eazy’s verse better in “So Simple”, though. That’s just my opinion but you guys know I love me some G-Eazy regardless 🙂

The rest of the features include “Gossip Columns” featuring Bobby Brackins, raw and much more raunchier than the others; not a favorite for me. “Westside Love” features rapper YG and is an ode to where their from and I’m not mad at it. Lastly, we have a remix of “Plot Twist” with Hailee Steinfield. I already love that song (as I mentioned above) and this remix does not change that. Still a favorite!

So, with all of that being said, check out the video for “Plot Twist” 🙂
