Music Review! Does Post Malone Live Up to His First EP (Stoney) with BeerBongs & Bentleys?

While I can, I want to do as many music reviews as I can so that I can catch us all up on some of the new releases. I don’t know about you guys but I hate falling behind on new music, especially when it comes to some of my favorites. Also, when it comes to those favorites, getting to write about 2nd albums is interesting because some don’t deliver; even after a record-breaking debut. Keep reading to find out whether or not Post lived up to the hype or not…

Who is Post Malone Again, You Ask…

Austin Post aka Post Malone is a singer, songwriter, rapper, and producer. You may remember when he came on the scene in 2015 with his hit “White Iverson”, which is still one of favorite songs by him. He released his debut album Stoney in 2016, with his single “Congratulations” hitting the Billboard chart at number eight. Then “Rockstar” the lead single from this new album, Beerbongs and Bentleys, became his first number one on the Hot 100.

After hitting one million views within a month of releasing “White Iverson”, Post quickly caught the attention of record labels, signing with Republic Records in 2015. Post worked with a number of notable rappers including Kanye West, who collabed with him on the single “Fade” from his album The Life of PabloPost even became friends with Justin Bieber, which led to him being an opening act for the Purpose World Tour, exposing him to a whole other fan base. He would soon release his first full project, a mixtape named August 26, the title itself was a reference to the release date of his debut album, Stoney.

Post’s music has been described as a “melting pot of the country, grunge, hip-hop and R&B” and Post himself has been described as versatile. His vocal style has been described as laconic. Jon Caramanica of The New York Times described Post as “an artist who toes the line between singing and rapping, and hip-hop and spooky electric folk”. Malone himself has called his music “genre-less”.

Now to the Good Part… My Review of Beerbongs & Bentleys

For this second album, I will continue to ignore everything non-music related about Post. The first post I ever did about Post, I did mention what set him apart and why I thought he was amazing. My mind has not really changed because musically, I still love him as an artist, and appreciate his unique sound; mixing country, grunge, hip hop, and r&b. I know that him being white and making the music that he does will always bother people, but if you are a music fan, like myself, good music is good music.

The overall mood of this album is similar to Stoney, filled with dark and raw emotions. Once again, I love the singles he led with for this album, “Rockstar” with 21 Savage and “Psycho” with one of favorite features Ty Dolla Sign. I can’t pick favorites at the moment because I truly love the album as a whole. The vibe is similar with every song but they’re still different and pull out a different emotion.

Check Out the video for the track “Psycho” featuring Ty Dolla Sign 🙂

Happy Listening! 🙂
