Hello Summer! Muzik Playback!

I recently had a hard time getting myself in the right mental space to sit and work on these blog posts. It’s been a struggle, but I finally found myself back in front of my computer to share some of my favorite releases with you guys. Yes, it is more K-Pop, but it’s a bit of a mix because the artists below mix genres a lot in their music. And, again, the K-Pop world just hasn’t been the same, especially with the older artists changing things up, and even calling out their record labels for their shady practices and contracts.

Monsta X’s Joohoney’s New Mountain Dew Collaboration!

You know we must start this one of with my Fav K-Pop Idol Joohoney! Yes, I am still obsessed with his recent solo debut album, but he is back with a fan collaboration for Mountain Dew. He has joined forces with fellow K-rappers Gaeko and Big Naughty for a track called “Over the Mountain”. For me, I love these kinds of songs for Joohoney because we really get his rapper persona, the side most of us love to see from him.

KARD is Back with 6th Mini Album ‘ICKY’

For this new ‘ICKY’ EP, it’s been fun to watch the fans who aren’t used to them, listen to the title track “Icky”, and watch the video for it. KARD have always had a more “grown” image and it shows in their lyrics, especially when it comes BM (Big Matthew). This new EP continues to lean into the sound they’re known for, heavily inspired by Caribbean and Dance beats. I seriously love every song on this EP, and the fact that they’re back with unit songs full of attitude, “Fxxk you” by Somin and Jiwoo, and “Been That Boy” with BM and J.seph.

CIX Releases ‘OK’ Episode 2: I’m OK – EP

We always get beautiful themes and songs when it comes to CIX. There are more slower tempo songs on this EP, as well, which I don’t mind. But I really love “Curtain Call” right now, especially the chorus. These songs have a heavy acoustic element to them, making them softer than some of their more R&B songs from previous projects.

(G)I-DLE is Back with ‘I feel’- EP

I don’t listen to a lot of girl groups on a regular basis, but (G)I-DLE is one of those exceptions. They’ve been one of my favorites for a while, abandoning that “cutesy” image that most girl groups have. They do have cute songs but they’re also a bit edgy with Pop/ Rock vibes, like on “Allergy” and “Lucid”. The funkier song “All Night” has become a favorite of mine.

New Full-Length Album from Stray Kids!

I’ve always respected that Stray Kids were a young group, heavily inspired by Hip Hop and other alternative elements, but doing it in a more unique way at the time. The first song that really stuck out to me during my first listen was “ITEM”. And I am really feeling “TOPLINE” featuring Tiger JK, as well. I do really like their slower tempo songs that have more of a Pop and/ or R&B sound, like “Collision” and “Mixtape: Time Out”.

New Song from BTS’ SUGA and Halsey!

I have enjoyed all the songs that Suga and Halsey have collaborated on, and I love their relationship. This time around, they collaborated for the video game Diablo IV’s anthem, called “Lilith”. It, of course, has a darker theme but it’s beautifully done. Their voices continue to mesh well together, and I am in love with Suga’s voice and tone on this song.

*TRIGGER WARNING: Demonic themes

More from Muzik Junqie!

I have a few posts that I’ve been working on for this month, not counting whatever new music releases come out this month (June). I’ve been preparing for a concert (losing my mind over seeing Bang Yongguk), so I have a couple of things planned for that. Also, with all the comebacks from my Favs, I have gone a little crazy with ordering albums, so I have more of those to post. Then I’ll probably chill for a while (other than concerts :)).
