Music Review! Amine Drops Debut Studio Album, Good for You!

Hey guys! I’m back and have a fun new music review for you! I have actually been very curious about this particular album since I heard the drop date. If you are someone who enjoys that blend of Hip Hop and R&B or you just want to hear something new and fun, then keep reading 🙂

First things first, who is Amine?

Amine is a 23 year old rapper out of Portland, Oregon. You could say that his rap career started around the time he was in high school. Then around the beginning of 2014 he dropped his first mixtape called Odyssey to Me. Later that year he would release an EP called En Vogue. The next year he came out with his second mixtape Calling Brio. (I will be catching up on those soon)…

In the Spring of 2016, he released his debut single “Caroline”. It peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100. He partnered with Republic Records the summer after that release. After joining Republic, his second single “Baba” was premiered. As of June this year, “Caroline” has been certified triple platinum.

One important thing to note about Amine is that he was named as one of the ten members of XXL’s “2017 Freshman Class”. This is a very notable accomplishment in the Hip Hop community. It also has come with a lot of debate and controversy because, of course, not everyone agrees with who is selected. But, when artists like Amine get that shine, then it’s an awesome moment. Good For You… My Review!

Let me start this little review by saying, I was pleasantly surprised by Amine and this album. I loved “Caroline” when it came out and I never got tired of it, but I also wasn’t sure what a full album would sound like. I didn’t know if that single would set the entire tone for the whole project or what. Plus, sometimes, an artist will put out an awesome and catchy single but the album won’t back it up.

That was not the case, though. The entire album was a perfect blend of R&B and Hip Hop. The songs were fun with a lot of playful wordplay. He kept it light while also having very deep, thoughtful, and relatable lyrics. He definitely was giving me Andre 3000 and (Superduper) KYLE vibes. He is obviously NOT Andre but I feel like Amine is giving a style that has been missing while we don’t have any new music from him, you know?

So, let’s get to the actual tracks on the album. I do have a few favorites, for sure, but I am still a fan of the entire record. Some of them are: “Veggies”, “Spice Girl”, “Wedding Crashers”, “Turf”, and “Heebiejeebies”. I feel like I was about to list the entire album LOL. But, like I always say, these are just the songs that stick out to me, especially when I first heard them.

With those songs that I mentioned, I need to tell you guys about the awesome features on this album. My favorite features are “Veggies” with Ty Dolla Sign (Ya’ll know I love him LOL) and “Heebiejeebies” with Kehlani. I honestly feel like “Heebiejeebies” was made for Kehlani; it sounds like something that would be on her album. The other songs with features are “Yellow” with Nelly, “Wedding Crashers” with Offset (Migos), and “Dakota” with Charlie Wilson. My favorite feature out of those is Mr. Charlie Wilson, of course. If you like R&B but haven’t heard him, please check him out!

Final Thoughts!

I don’t think I have too much more to say about Amine or the album. Hopefully, you guys go and check out Amine and this album. I am really happy for him and all of his success, though. I feel like this is only the beginning for him and I am looking forward to more music and videos from him.
