Mini FanGirl Experience! Meeting Raheem Devaughn

I almost didn’t post about this since it wasn’t your typical “FanGirl Experience” story but meeting Raheem Devaughn was a very eventful day so you may find it interesting LOL. This is definitely one of those times where working in radio actually matches what people think that it’s like in real life, everyday. Because, trust me, most of the time, it is not at all what you would think; at least being in a small city and market, anyway *shrugs*.

Meeting Raheem Devaughn

The “event” involved a question and answer segment, hosted by one of my good girl friends/ amazing radio DJ Vicky. She, honestly, made everything so fun and interactive so it was appreciated, as always. And I could honestly listen to Raheem talk all day, especially because he was really dropping some gems. He talked about music, old and new, the music industry, and some personal things, especially the non-profit causes/ initiatives that he works with.

Before we got to the actual meet & greet part of the event, Raheem sang a little something acapella; I definitely melted a little bit. I watched some people take their picture with him and noticed that the camera on my phone had decided to stop working, but thank goodness for my co-workers/ friends, they took it and sent it to me. He was very sweet and I am very happy that I got to experience that (even though it was in my little home away from home, and some people still don’t know who he is). Looking forward to more things like this, getting the locals into some artists that they may not be familiar with.

Discovering CrossRhodes

I was already a fan of everything that Raheem has put out, but was unfamiliar with a collab album under a different name, Crossrhodes. A question that one of my friends asked, prompted him to mention the album called Footprints on the Moon. I looked it up as soon as he said it and I just got the chance to really sit and listen to it. It’s definitely a bit different from his other albums. But he does keep that sexy R&B vibe but the social awareness takes over more but it’s amazing.

Check out their latest video for the track “Backwoods & Perfume” below…

Final Thoughts!

One of the main things that I took away from this little event is how much work needs to be done as far as promotion and event organization. At no point should Raheem have NOT felt more love from the city that he took time away from Essence to visit. I have mentioned how I feel like the support from the surrounding areas isn’t as great as in other places. I love where I’m from but I just wish we supported each other and people outside of here more.
